Our Mission

St. Nicholas William Spyropoulos Greek-American Day School’s mission is to provide our students with a solid education focused on achieving academic excellence and character development in a nurturing environment.  We give our students the foundation to become lifelong learners and create an inner self confidence that will keep them strong and enable them to reach their personal goals.  We empower them with a solid Greek Orthodox identity and teach them the values and principles of our Faith, at the same time appreciating other cultures and civilizations.  Our children are given and seize the opportunity to form lasting friendships that strengthen their social development.

HISTORY

Even with the changes throughout the years, we have remained steadfast in our mission. Our focus remains firm—it is one in which our students learn to value and strive for academic excellence, good character, and knowledge and love of our faith and ethnic background. We provide an outstanding environment where our children can learn and grow happily and successfully.

Our Vision for a Greek-American
Day School

Our Parish had the vision to create a Greek-American Day School for the children of our St. Nicholas Church. The community decided that a day school would provide our children with an educational environment that would serve their academic needs, teach them their faith, and foster a love of their Hellenic heritage.

Our Benefactor:
Mr. William Spyropoulos

Our vision for such a school was made possible by our benefactor Mr. William Spyropoulos. The St. Nicholas family is eternally grateful to Mr. William Spyropoulos who shared our vision. His generosity enabled us to open The William Spyropoulos Greek-American Day School of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Flushing, New York.

Our Opening Day:
September 12, 1977

Bishop Silas blessed The William Spyropoulos Greek-American Day School of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on September 12, 1977. On that day, our School opened its doors, and we welcomed 50 students in grades Nursery, Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades.

Our Growth and Leadership

As our student body grew, so did our facility. In 1990, we added three new classrooms. In 2006, we expanded further by adding nine new classrooms, a gymnasium, and an auditorium. Today, we have an enrollment of almost 400 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Our School is under the dedicated leadership of Mrs. Mary Tzallas, Principal, and Mrs. Georgia Kakivelis, Assistant Principal.
